Amazon launches one-hour online grocery deliveries in London

The Amazon Fresh launch, which is available to its Prime members, follows on from Amazon beginning trials of one-hour grocery deliveries in Birmingham last month.

It is believed Amazon is testing its food distribution network ahead of a full launch of its Amazon Fresh online grocery service in February or March next year.

The online trial in London is delivering the same 50 products as the Birmingham test. Products available for one-hour delivery include Pukka Pies, Chicago Town pizzas, Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, orange juice, Kingsmill bread and Birds Eye fish fingers.

Offering grocery products for one-hour delivery in London, comes two days after Amazon expanded its Prime Now service to more London postcodes following the opening of a warehouse in Wimbledon.

One-hour Prime now deliveries is available to customers who pay the annual £79 Prime membership fee and are willing to pay an additional £6.99 an order.

In the US, Amazon charges $99 (£63.56) for an annual Prime subscription, with an additional $200 (£128.40) per year billed to Amazon Fresh customers for deliveries. Amazon Fresh is currently only available to residents of Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York City, San Diego and Philadelphia.
